When we drove into Glenwood Springs last night, it was dark and rainy and we had to choose between the west end of town and the east end of town. We went with Amy's Acres on the west end of town. When we woke up and got started this morning, we were considering riding our bikes. But then Jay, Jay Jay and Kai got a good look around. It was more of actual long term trailer park/junk yard of sorts and nobody felt good about leaving the bus behind. So, up, packed and off we went to find adventure.
And it was waiting for us. Glenwood Springs Adventure Park did not disappoint. Started off with tram ride to the top of a mountain and then unlimited rides. Our favorite was the outdoor alpine race track, where we controlled the speed. Allie and I in one car, the boys in another. We dropped 1500 feet on a 3300 foot track with speeds up to 25 miles per hour on a sled, which rode on reinforced steel.
The kids did the zip line with dad. I am a total wimp, can't imagine going off a cliff with my legs dangling. When Jay and Allie did it, they zipped right down and landed on the crash pad. When the controller tried to pull them back up, the fault had been tripped and so there they sat for several minutes while the problem was solved. I would have been long dead of a full on FREAK OUT if that had been me left sitting at the end of the zip line hanging off the side of a mountain.
We got to play lazer tag (kicked the kids butts). Then we played on teams with a whole hord of kids and kicked their butts. For some reason, Jay kept taking aim at me. So, if you are reading this, and I turn up dead full of lazer beam holes, he is the first one I want the police to talk to.
We met Mack from Florida who took pain staking time with the kids while they sluiced for gem stones, helping them identify each and every precious stone from rose quartz to their obsideon arrow heads. The arrow heads are hands down the best treat so far.
They also went faux spelunking in a speloe box, a wooden tourture chamber with tunnels, hanging dangers, tight squeezes and hairpin turns. Kids bungee jumping, a human maze to puzzle even the smartest of us and views to take you away to far off mountain tops. We had to skip out on the cavern tour (70 minutes) in favor of making it to Steamboat Springs tonight. It was a family decision, we are getting better and better at making those together. Maybe these precious 300 sq feet of tin are doing us some good. Our other big family decision was today at lunch. Baked beans or french fries. It has to be an all for one, one for all thing when it comes to beans, so we will share the blame later tonight instead of trying to pin it on the dog. Kai, though, has done her fair share of evil though after a certain stint when the kids and I thought cheese would be a nice treat in the Navaho Nation.
Jay Jay (ah, my son, the foodie) ate his burger today at lunch with lettace and tomato, ketchup and mustard. And all his beans. Allie, ate 1/3 of her burger and two bites of beans after much poking and proding. She was too busy coloring a page for Mack in the Hello Kitty coloring book left behind in the Kids Corral. Had to get it done before we left. He gave her a great big hi five.
We are traveling the Colorado River north now. Somehow, Jay has digressed to the flow of the Colorado River to the Grand Canyon to Adolf Hitler and his ultimate demise.
