First day on the road

We hit Holbrook yesterday around 3. Pretty run down town. As an indicator, the sign when you pull into the KOA says "No panhandling". We went on a hike to find the covered pedestrian walk way so we could look down on I 40 and see all the semi trucks rushing by. We also got to see a petrified log, 200 million years old. Allie had to ask the owners of the KOA if they updated their sign every year. The man we asked reported that the sign should actually read 200 million and nine years, but the don't have the money to change it right now.

The playground gets a 6/10 according the kids due to a gross lack of other kids and virtually no trees. The merry go round is very well lubed, though, and can really pick up intense speeds. The slide is also very high with rickety metal steps, so that definately added to their excitement.

My beloved keurig coffee maker, my boyfriend, Paul Newman, and his amazing extra bold did NOT get to come along. Papa demanding this small offering to remain with him while he watches the house back home. So I am forced to drink starbucks VIA. Ate breakfast at the chuck wagon.

Each kiddo has already run through a chapter book each and the majority of their assigned school work. Now we are on the road heading to the 4 corners. Little Jay is the navigation seat, a co-pilot for his dad. Unable to read the map, he is keeping Jay entertained by reading the funny parts out of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the Last Straw". As we get closer to the border of Arizona and Colorado, they are in utter disbelief that they will be standing on one spot yet standing in 4 different states at the same time.
